The word ‘homoeopathy’ is derived from two Greek words. ‘Homois’ meaning similar and ‘pathos’ meaning suffering. Homoeopathy simply means treating patients with remedies, prescribed in minute doses, which are capable of producing symptoms similar to disease when taken by healthy people. It is based on the natural law of healing-“ Similia similibus Curantur ” which means, “ like cures like.

In the year 1928 Homoeopathy was accepted in Government level in kerala. The first Government Homoeo Dispensary was started at Thiruvananthapuram in the year 1958. A separate department of Homoeopathy under Government of Kerala was formed in the year 1973 by bifurcating the then indigenous medicine(ISM) Department.
